Help reading Dad’s medical report – COPD?
Hi all,
My mom contacted me regarding my Dad’s report. She has been referred to a pulmonologist and has an appointment for mid July. She asked me to further research, but this is all Greek to me. Forgive me if anything is spelled incorrectly as she relayed this report to me over the phone while whispering because she didn’t want Dad to hear her. Just a quick history, my Dad is 73 and worked on the docks in NYC for over 30 years. He has not smoked in about 25 years. Report says the following:
Hyerinflated accentuated interstital markings in the lower lobes.
No area of consolidation pleural effusion or pneumothorax.
The aorta is slightly tortuous.
The hilar and visualized osseous structures are remarkable.
There is a bilateral apical pleural thickening impression.
COPD with chronic bibasilar interstitial lung disease and bilateral apical pleural thickening.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Not looking for any sugar coating, just an honest response. Thanks in advance for your help.
It sounds like your dad has fairly severe COPD and perhaps some interstitial lung disease.
I suspect he will have pulmonary function tests and perhaps a CT of the chest will be performed.
They should also check to see if he requires supplemental oxygen as well.
