i would recommend having the sas survival hand book or something similar and a knowledge of your native edible plants etc . knowledge is a must . the birch tree is probably the most useful tree there is , in the u.k anyway . you can eat the inner bark , drink the sap , eat young leaves and the bark makes good tinder , all that off one tree .
