How do i get a medical waiver for anti depressants?
I want to join the navy but i took anti depressants a few years ago. The department of defense has it on record that i took them because i told a recruiter i saw a while back and he sent my papers in. I tried joining again recently but didnt get the waiver because the medical papers that i had dont have sufficient information. Ive tried contacting my old doctor many times but he never responds. Could someone give me some advice on what i could do from here?
Current guidelines for enlistment require that you be off of anti-depressants for one year and have a doctors statement stating that you are functioning normally at this time without them. See a different doctor for the statement and contact the doctors clinic for the records.
Subpoena your medical records from him. If it’s court-ordered, he has to write you up something at least stating you’re fine.

Honestly… I’m in the Navy myself and it’s going to be tough getting in simply because the Navy wouldn’t want to deal with you having that issue of depression while you’re enlisted… Because if it occurs while you’re serving, they are obligated to treat your illness until you are well enough to be discharged… Which could be months… Or years. Case in point, the Navy…Military in general wants to make sure that you’re an asset… Not a liability and even though I’m sure you don’t suffer from depression anymore, right now you’re looking like a liability, more than an asset. GL.
P.S. If you do go in don’t become a CS or BM…. crappy jobs.

you can go see a new doctor, have him do a new eval on you. you will have to see him a few times, in order for him to prove that you are clear to go in. this will more then likely fix it. don’t worry about ever being on antidepressants, everyone gets depressed. you were just smarter then others. you got help.
