Can the primary custodial father?
Can the primary custodial father legally put my address and contact info on all medical bills of our sons? I just recently sent my son to live with him and for the last 14 yrs I just paid all medical expenses. I know I didn’t have to but can’t get blood out of a turnip. So today in the mail comes an out of state medical bill directly from the dr office. I have the son on my insurance. So is that legal? The he just automatically puts my contact info for billing?
If your son’s residence is with his father, the father should be the contact person.
If your son is still under your medical insurance policy, then you would be responsible for getting the bills paid.
Your son should be under his father’s insurance since he is living with him. I don’t know if what he did is illegal, it does not sound like it is.
Actually I think he HAS to if you are the one carrying the insurance. They have to go through that FIRST here in GA, and since you are the carrier of insurance, they HAVE to inform you what is being charged to your insurance.
It’s been a while since I worked in billing, but last time I was there, the one who carried the insurance is the one technically responsible. Usually with divorce it was the same way, except one of the parties usually sends a bill to the other for half of all non-covered expenses (if there are any)
Poster below:What he did IS legal if there was no change in insurance. The way paperwork is written he probably never even gave it a second thought. It usually asks "Primary Insured" and he listed HER…..Well, Dr.’s send the BILL to primary insured! He probably didn’t even know, and all he likely did was answer the question
Also, it’s not true that the parent the child is living with is the one who has to carry insurance. Often non custodial fathers carry insurance on kids they rarely see. It’s all about who gets better insurance for the kids, not who they live with

Depending on what your divorce/custody papers say, he can keep sending you the bills unless there is something in your agreement that states differently. In my sisters case each parent had to keep insurance on the children, but that’s in California.
