how do i contact a hospital patient…?
A friend of mine was seriously injured in a crash with a drunk driver. He was taken to Fort Sam Medical Center and called me from there twice after he was admitted. Every time I call the front desk, or the number he has called me from, they are unable to locate him in their database when I give them his name and age. He told me this is due to the fact it was such a serious accident so they don’t put his name in the database for confidentiality reasons. Is it true they do this? Is there any other way I can get ahold of him? I haven’t heard from him in a few days so I’m a bit worried.
Also he has no immediate family that’s aware he’s hospitalized, I’m the only person he’s called to let know…
Try and get another number from one of his family members. If he is seriously injured then he probably doesn’t feel like talking much anyway. Yes, to your question. The hospital sometimes will keep information on patient’s confidential. However, this is up to the patient or the patient’s family, the hospital will not automatically do it. There are alot of new rules out now protecting patient’s privacy, so the best bet would be to contact his immediate family if possible. Good luck.

go to the hospital and see him and they only do that (confidentiality) if the patient or the immediate family request a different name and he should give you the name that he is listed under so that you don’t have such a hard time.
