Grant Medical Center suggests Kangaroo Care, skin-to-skin contact, for healthy babies

OhioHealth Grant Medical Center suggests new born babies be exposed to kangaroo care, a skin to skin contact with parents to ensure the health of their child.

Grant Medical Center registered nurse Kim Boggs talks about the importance of kangaroo care for new born babies. Kangaroo care, or skin to skin contact by placing your baby (wearing only a diaper) against bare your chest, is important for healthy development of new born babies. Some benefits include the baby being warmer, calmer and less ornery. Babies who receive kangaroo care also have better blood sugars, and an easier time breathing. This bonding experience is not limited to mothers, fathers can also take part in kangaroo care to get closer to their baby.
