  1. Sad. I remember …
Sad. I remember that day and seeing the video as it happened then was like reopening the wound. Not much of a warning he looked just fine then bam. RIP

  2. I remember when he …
I remember when he died. It was one of the saddest days of my life. As an LA resident, I had grown to love and appreciate Hank and Bo Kimble, and their amazing basketball team. They were best of friends and seemed to be enjoying the incredible ride they were on together. They appeared on a local news broadcast many times with another good man who died too young, Eddie Arnold. To see Eddie have to announce Hank’s death that night was heartbreaking. They would have made some waves in the tourney

  3. he had medical …
he had medical clearance to play with the medication they were giving him. He stopped taking it because it affected his play.

Yawn… Heavy come back, yet very intelligent… Moron, get your facts straight…

He was found to have an abnormal heartbeat (exercise-induced ventricular tachycardia), and was prescribed a beta blocker. However, Gathers felt that the medication adversely affected his play, and he soon cut back on his dosage.[1]

    A young High School …
A young High School basketball star close to where I live died from a heart condition while playing some pick up basketball with friends several years back.

It is such a shame this happens to these bright and talented young men. Hopefully enough macho athletes will take the possibility of a cardiac arrest during high impact sports or Exercise seriously. Please young people be smart and don’t overlook signs or family history of heart troubles.

If you are doing physical sports you should always get a medical check up and unlike Hank, listen to the doctors…

I’m pretty sure it was actually the UNLV Rebels.. fyi

  10. I told my …
I told my basketball coach I had increased sized heart muscles and he told me to get it checked out. I told him it probably wasn’t a big deal, and then he told me about this guy. It saddens me that he died at such a young age. It makes me wonder…

  11. Actually, they lost …
Actually, they lost to UNLV in the 4th round (Elite 8) in Oakland, CA. I was at the game when Hank died (still makes me cry thinking about it – he was really a nice guy), and each of their 4 subsequent NCAA tournament games. They beat New Mexico State, Michigan (149-115!!! best game ever) and Alabama before losing to UNLV. Bo Kimble, Jeff Fryer, Terrell Lowery, Per Stumer, Chris Scott — what a great team and fun to watch, would have gone further with Hank.
